Workshop: The journey of a complaint – communication skills for effective complaints management

Jessica Mills is the Senior Legal Advisor and Director of Advocacy at the Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner.

Having worked as a midwife for 20 years both in the UK and New Zealand, Jessica completed a law degree in 2006. She then spent four years in a commercial law firm in Christchurch before joining Canterbury Chambers as a Barrister in 2010. Jessica took up her current role as a senior legal advisor at HDC in May 2013 and was appointed Director of Advocacy at HDC in 2015. In her role as Director of Advocacy, Jessica is responsible for the Nationwide Health and Disability Advocacy Service. Jessica has had a particular interest in alternative dispute resolution processes; as a health professional, as a lawyer and now as Director of Advocacy. Her qualifications include a Master of Medical Science (Clinical Midwifery) and an LLB (Hons).
